Meet Your Neighbor Effie Carter, born in Gameole, Kentucky, on June 26, 1911. Her parents were David and Mary Jenkins. She attended school in Gameole and Woodburn, Kentucky.
Effie married Oscar Carter December 17, 1926, in Kentucky. They moved to Illinois in 1927 and were farmers all their married life before retiring and moving into town in 1973. Three children were born to them, Emogine, James Doc and Elaine. Oscar died in 1977.
Effie has nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She keeps busy gardening, crocheting, baking pies and making blankets for R.S.V.P. She belongs to the Durham United Methodist Church and is a member of the Senior Citizens and the Friendship Club.
