By Eleanor Sears, Quill Staff

Meet Your Neighbor Elgin Johnson. She was born in La Harpe to Raymond and Mabel George.

Growing up near Blandinsville, Elgin attended elementary school at Hickory Grove. Her high school years were spent in Blandinsville, graduating from there.

After high school, Elgin found work at the meat packing plant in Bushnell.

This was during wartime and there were many soldiers at nearby Camp Ellis.

When they were on bivouac, she helped serve meals to them. She then worked at the Ford garage in Blandinsville for 10 years.

She married Victor Johnson in 1951 and she has lived in La Harpe since then.

After her marriage, she worked at the Library in La Harpe. Her recent employment is with the senior citizens working as a Green Thumb worker for 10 years before becoming a Site Coordinator for Meals Plus at La Harpe.

She has one daughter, Vickie Burford and 2 grandchildren, Bryan and Brianne Burford.
