The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.

Moment in History

The first road in Biggsville Township was the Monmouth and Burlington state road which entered the township near the northeast corner and passed through to the southwest and left the township at Sec30 near the southwest corner.

Like all roads in that early day no attention was given to lines and it passed from one leading point to another traversing the most convenient route, fording streams in the safest and most accessible places before continuing onward.

At one time on the corner of Main and Johns Street in Biggsville stood a massive oak to which was nailed a guide-board pointing out the direction of Burlington and Monmouth.

Travelers lingered long enough to find their way before journeying onward.
