Doran resigns from GOP committee

After 15 years with the Henderson County Republican Central Committee, Tom Doran of Carman is resigning to pursue other challenges.

A director with the newly formed Henderson County Economic Development Corp., the Stronghurst insurance man of Doran Insurance & Services, Inc. said he needed to represent himself as being unbiased and retaining no political favoritism to accomplish the task of improving the county's economy.

His current term with the Republican Central Committee will expire in April.

"A lot of time in prayer and thought was put into my decision," Doran said, a strong arm for the county's republicans.

He will continue as Carman Township road commissioner, a post he has had 20 years.

Also an elected member of the Henderson County Board, Doran cited hands-on work with the HCEDC and as newly designated chair (of the county board's economic development committee), he projects that the work of the committee will take precedent in the months ahead.

The Henderson County Economic Development Corp. is launching a four-session workshop series on county health mapping as it pertains to economic development.

Doran said the group will focus next on working to help small businesses in the county secure low-interest loans through federally funded grants.
