Opal Coffey has lived in La Harpe since 1949, when she and her husband moved to Illinois from Kentucky. She married Bill Coffey in 1946 in Kentucky and they enjoyed 54 years together until his death in 2000. Opal was born and raised in Greensburg, Kentucky. Her parents were Alvis and Alpha Judd. She was one of 12 children in the family. She learned to quilt as a young girl and continues in this special skill and has many beautiful quilts. Housework for different people has been her main occupation, both in La Harpe and in Raritan. She has also worked at a restaurant in Raritan. Opal is an amazing 84-year old lady who does her own yard work, has a strawberry patch and garden and does lots of canning. |
