Discuss Need For Fundraiseres For $20,000 Goal For Ball Park
Biggsville-The Biggville Village Board met in regular session February 4, with President Janet Monville presiding and the following present: trustees-Dale Allenbaugh (7:35 p.m.), Marilyn Evans, Daryl Forbes, Gloria Minard, Bob Onion (8:05) p.m., and Louise Webb (7:40 p.m.), treasurer-Gloria Jones, clerk-Frank Jones, maintenance man-Jeff Lant, and visitors-Bill Leonard, Heather Louck, Tammy Gerhardt.
After the usual business, Treasurer Gloria Jones reported that the village has received donations of $3,625 for the ball park project. President Monville asked the board members to be thinking about money making projects.
"We need to work on individual and business donations to be able to reach our goal of $20,000," she said.
Daryl Forbes reported that he had priced ceiling tile and panel lights for the community building. He will pick up the ceiling tile and ask for volunteer help to replace the tile.
President Monville said the village has received an EPA violation of federal rules for safe levels of radium in the city's water supply and has 45 days to reply.
The village has a plan and intends to proceed as soon as grant is received. President Monville will contact the village attorney, engineer and state lawmakers for direction in addressing this problem.
Daryl Forbes said the village needs to do the streets this year when the township has their roads done.
Dale Allenbaugh said 2005 was tentatively set to do the village streets but he would contact Allen Ferguson.
Jeff Lant reported on the lift station repairs. A 7 hp motor burned up and had to be replaced. Lant said the village needs a sturdy tripod to work in the lift station. This piece of equipment costs approximately $2,500. Monville will ask Don Burns if the remaining sewer funds can be used.
President Monville reported that Glen Olson had water in his basement at his property on Adams Street and needed the water turned off. It was questioned why this water was on, because it had been shut off by the village.
The board reviewed the delinquent water/sewer bills.
Bill Leonard presented the village with maps of his property that he wants disconnected from the village. This appears to be an exercise to make all documents coincide. No action was required at this time.
President Monville reported on the Ron Stout property. Janet Monville, Ron Stout, and several board members viewed this property. Stout said he would clean it up and in fact burned trash for one day. Stout later called and inquired about hooking on to the sewer. This was discussed as to who is responsible for this hook-up since no T connection was installed. Monville will review the ordinance and report back next meeting.
President Monville reported the NOVA Communications will be servicing Kirkwood and if the Village of Biggsville will sign an agreement, anyone in Biggsville could hook on to this cable. Monville will ask or updated rates and the village will act on this agreement next month. Several residents expressed interest because of the high speed internet option.
President Monville asked if anyone is interested in representing the village serving on the Henderson County Economic Development Corporation Board.
Members weren't sure when the meetings are to make a commitment. Louise Webb moved the village donate $100 per year for three years to EDC, seconded by Bob Onion. Roll was called and all present voted yes.
The next regular meeting will be on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at the Biggsville Community Building.
