Meet Your Neighbor Leta Shell, born two to three miles south of Ft. Green. Her mother died when she was five years old, so she lived with her grandmother in Ft. Green. Leta attended grade school there and three years of high school. She had one sister and one brother. After high school, she attended Quincy Beauty Academy and graduating in 1936. In the fall of "36, she opened her own beauty shop in Ft. Green which she operated for 40 years. She retired in 1979. Leta met her husband Dan, in California through some friends. Dan was in the service at that time. They have been married for 59 years. They lived in Ft. Green until they moved to La Harpe in 1990. Leta always loved to read, sew, quilt, crochet, and cook. However, she is unable to do any of that now because of muscular degeneration, but still enjoys visiting with friends. Dan is a resident of La Harpe-Davier Health Care Center and Leta lives in the assisted living quarters there. |
