The Southern Board of Education held a special meeting on Thursday, January 29, 2004 to discuss the Superintendent's contract.
Following a closed meeting the board voted 5-2 on the motion:
"Not to extend Superintendent Barber's contract beyond the 2003-2004 school year, effective June 30, 2004."
Jon Corzatt, Doug Brooks, Melissa Livermore, Dan Bowman and Rod Fox cast "yes" votes, with Brendan Schaley and Brad Arnold voting "no."
In a phone interview, President Jon Corzatt said that one possibility would be to hire an Interim Superintendent due to the ongoing consolidation talks.
Board member Rod Fox said they would have to check the proper procedures before knowing which avenues to pursue.
