Someone Is A Gift!

By Elaine Slater Reese

I find wrapping gifts such a chore. It is not something I am good at or enjoy doing. And the purpose? How many people rip the paper off without really noticing it? And I find myself rushing more each year, month, week, and day. Is all this really important? I have to make some sort of sense of who I am, where I am going, what I am doing.

So today I take time to reflect. And almost immediately your name and your face come to my mind. I hear the words you have spoken to me. I see the example you have set. I think of all the times you have listened as I have shared my feelings with you. I knew they were safe there.

You accepted and loved me as I am. We have laughed, cried, learned, and explored together. What precious memories and thoughts I have of you. You have had such a positive influence on my life - on who I am now.

It is with tears in my eyes and gratitude in my heart that I say thank you, Someone. My tribute to you is that I will share what I have learned from you with others. In that way, you will live on. God has blessed me with the gift of you.
