Moment in History

Frederick Odendahl was born in Cologne, Prussia in 1822. In the summer of 1847 he came to America.

On April14, 1849 he married Miss Ernestine Froehlich at Nauvoo, Illinois and they came to Oquawka in 1850.

He engaged in the grocery and provision line until the outbreak of the Civil War when he joined Co.D, 10th Ill.Vol. Inf.

He later joined the 17th Reg. Mo. Inf. and served until inflammatory rheumatism lead to his discharge.

He participated in the battles of Wilson' Creek, Pea Ridge and many others. He died in 1877.
