Community Donations Raise $1,000 For Samantha

The La Harpe Fire Protection District served their annual Christmas dinner to area residents at the La Harpe Christian Church fellowship hall on Saturday December 11th.

This has been an annual event since 1989 when the firemen felt there was a need in the community to give those who would not be having family home for Christmas an opportunity to have a meal and fellowship with others.

It was not intended to be a fund raiser at that time.

However, over the years others said they would like to come also and would be willing to give a donation. This year the firemen decided that the donations would go to help with medical and other expenses for Samantha Lionberger who was seriously injured in a car accident this fall.

Fireman from La Harpe, Fountain Green, and Terre Haute helped with the dinner.

There are 50 firemen all together in these 3 areas who risk their lives for our safety and who do many other community services such as this dinner.

Fifteen turkeys were cooked and served along with all the trimmings. A crowd of around 185 came to eat and enjoy the social time and around 30-40 meals were carried out.

The firemen were able to raise $1000.00 for the Lionberger's.
