Southern Begins Another Session

Four hundred and forty-two Southern School students headed back to school this week as teachers worked extra hours to get their classrooms ready.

Shown above, Connie Sue Torrance and new teacher Marty Harig work in Southern High School's new computer lab. The new wireless network computers bring up-to-date technology to the district as part of Southern's ongoing computer updating policy.

The new computers feature flat-screen displays and a compact case which minimizes the amount of space each computer takes in the lab. The smaller form factor helps the computer lab space more easily accommodate class instruction throughout the day.

Southern's school year began Monday with a staff breakfast hosted by the Southern School Board. Superintendent Tom Avery welcomed the staff to a new school year, and the principals held staff meetings before teachers put the finishing touches on their classrooms for the first student attendance day on Tuesday.

A short day (10:00 AM dismissal on Tuesday) introduced students to their new teachers and new classrooms.

Full school days at Southern began Wednesday.
