The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Lambert Hopper bought land in what today is Stronghurst Township, Henderson County in 1832. By 1836 he had constructed a mill on Ellison Creek at a place that became known as "Hopper's Mill."
Two years later he and Mr. Robinson built a grist mill drawing pioneers to the area to have their grain ground into flour. By 1840 Mr. Hopper had the town of Warren laid out and sold or gave away lots. A hotel housed guests who had traveled to the improved mill he built that same year and his store sold supplies.
A carding machine was added further down the creek and later in 1859 he and Mr. Baldwin constructed a woolen mill; its first successful year was 1861. The untimely death of Mr. Hopper and later his son John Wesley saw the decline on this thriving community.
