25th La Harpe Summerfest Aug. 11-14

LaHarpe:As the dog days of summer wind down and just before the school year gears up, LaHarpe will be celebrating its 25th year of Summerfest.

This year the festivities begin on Wednesday, August 11 and run through Saturday, August 14, 2004.

This annual event in LaHarpe's City Park is put on by the local merchants organization-the LaHarpe Golden Rule Club-and by the LaHarpe Lions Club. Summerfest is known for miles around as a great place to gather with family and friends for food, music, and fun.

For these four great days in August, LaHarpe's City Park will play host to carnival rides by C&D Amusements, meals served by local organizations, and lively music each night at the bandstand in the center of the park.

The carnival will be up and running each evening and early afternoon on Saturday.

All evening meals are served in the air-conditioned Masonic Lodge on the east side of the park. Colors will be presented at 7:15 p.m. each evening with free entertainment to begin at 7:30 p.m. You are invited to bring your lawn chairs and your appetite and have a great time.

For further information on any Summerfest event call 217-659-3793 or 217-659-7776.

The Summerfest 2004 commemorative button features a full color photo of the LaHarpe Branch and Corporate Office of First State Bank of Western Illinois. First State was chosen this year as they celebrate "A Century of Service" to LaHarpe and all of Western Illinois. Buttons are available at LaHarpe Area Merchants for $5 each and the proceeds help defray the costs of the entertainment.

Everyone who purchases a button will be eligible for a $100 drawing each night and for other door prizes (must be present to win). Buttons and 50/50 drawing tickets will be available at the hospitality tent each evening of Summerfest.

Posters and brochures detail the Summerfest events as does a double page age inside The Hancock County Quill this week.
