An eleven and one half foot, two-sided clock will be placed in the Stronghurst Village Park when it arrives as part of the on-going Village park improvements.
Village board members voted to pay $4600 for the clock at their regular meeting April 5th, and the Stronghurst Booster Club will donate $4900 toward the project plus another $1000 donation has been received for the clock, according to Tony Griepentrog.
The excess funds not used for the clock will be earmarked for bathrooms as a future project.
Tony Anderson was given permission to put in an application to Telelink Service to see if the village would qualify for a tower to be placed on the water tower. The company would pay the village for the use of the tower.
Five bids were received for a new village tractor for the purpose of mowing and tilling and possible other duties in the future. As the bids were passed back and forth between the board members, President Chockley stated that one bid was $3,000 less. Lawrence Neff made a motion and Robert Scott seconded it, to accept the bid submitted by Rod Fox for a Ford tractor in the amount of $11,875. Motion passed on a 4-2 vote.
Vancil stated $3000 was a lot of money and after careful deliberation cast a no vote, with Juanita Jarvis casting the other no vote.
Juanita Jarvis reported there was no response to an article placed in the paper regarding the flower beds in the park. It has been suggested individuals or a group plant and maintain one of the flower beds in the park. She said she would continue talking to people, as well as each of the churches.
The board discussed a problem with people parking beside the fire hydrant for loading and unloading students at the high school. Not only is this a dangerous situation for the students, it creates a problem for the busses pulling out of the circle drive. Much discussion pursued due to it being illegal to park within a certain distance of a fire hydrant anyway. President Chockley requested Robert Scott observe the situation and bring back a recommendation.
Angela Myers requested that anyone having trouble with their garbage pick-up call her at 924-1622. She doesn't know there is a problem unless she is informed.
Angela also reported Friday, May 21 will be Spring Clean Up Day. Board members strongly suggest trash be set out the night before, since there is no guarantee what time the pick-up will begin. Gene Roark had requested he be allowed to pick up refrigerators and other appliances. Angela will talk with him and see if some arrangements can be made.
The board voted to purchase 2 tables and 20 padded chairs for the new village hall at a cost of $590. The carpet has been installed and this purchase make it ready for the next board meeting to be held there.
Tony Griepentrog told members the Booster Club would like to donate the nativity set to the village. The board took no action, thereby declining the offer.
Present: Board members-Tony Griepentrog, David Vancil, Lawrence Neff, Robert Scott, Juanita Jarvis and Angela Myers; President Eric Chockley; Clerk Deanna Huss; Tresurer Lori Russell; Deputy Steve Haynes; Employees, Bob Carmean, Tony Anderson and Scott Ford; Guests, Bob Hamilton, Rod Fox and Terry Myers.
The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 3, 2004 at the newly remodeled Village Hall east of Jo Jo's Korner, Main Street.
