Just Three Words

By Elaine Slater Reese

WHY GO ON?

Life was too complicated and too busy! I had no more energy to try to beat the clock.

I had become like a wind up toy that was WOUND TOO TIGHT. I WAS DEFEATED!

I could not continue in the rat race. I would not go on like that. I chose to make decisions with a COLD, HARD HEART. At the time, it seemed easier that way.

I DIDN'T GIVE.

I DIDN'T RECEIVE.

No emotions meant no pain - or so I thought.

Then one day someone told me about BETRAYAL, DENIAL, NAILS.

I learned of a CROSS, CRUCIFIXION, DEATH. Life appeared even more DARK, DEPRESSING, HOPELESS. IT WAS FINISHED!

There was no future. There was nothing to look forward to. NOTHING REALLY MATTERED!

But then I learned there was more. HE died and He arose! He did it for me!

JESUS LOVES ME!

I ACCEPTED HIM!

I am no longer alone. There is one who cares about me. He knows me by my name. He calls me His child. He promises to walk each path with me.

Now, in the midst of this disease, the loss of my job, the rejection of a loved one, this financial struggle, this emotional pain, I have peace and joy - BECAUSE HE LIVES! MY SAVIOR LIVES!

Dear Editor,

We had this happen to our family and thought that the citizens in Hancock County should be warned since the state isn't doing it and neither is the county.

My daughter Paula alerted me to the fact that her registration sticker on her license plate was expired. I don't know how most families handle it, but I DO NOT check my vehicle registrations periodically to see if they are up to date. I wait til I get the renewal in the mail, write out a check and send it in and wait for the new sticker or plates to come in the mail. Or sometimes I take my renewal to the bank and get my sticker there. I had not received the renewal form from the state so my husband had to take the registration to Carthage to the Drivers License Facility to get a new sticker.

When he told the lady there that we had not received the renewal notice, she said she knew why. Our mailing address, which is a 911 address assigned to us by the county some years ago now, has the word "state" in it. The State of Illinois no longer recognizes any address with the word "state" in it as being a valid address. My husband pointed out that our address was assigned to us by the county and they and the US Post Office insist that we use it as our official address. The lady said that Hancock County was responsible for the mistake and that they had not followed state guidelines when assigning 911 addresses. So now, anyone who should be receiving correspondence from the State of Illinois, but has an address with the word "state" in it will not be getting their important mail. If you have the word "state" in your address, check your vehicles registration. If you were a good citizen and changed all your registrations to your legal 911 address with the word "state" in it, you will not be getting your renewal.

How do you fix it? You have to take the word "state" out of your address for any mail that you expect to get from the State of Illinois. It is that simple. Call the Carthage Drivers License Facility for more information about the exact procedure for changing your address with the state.

Any complaints for tickets you were issued as a result of driving with an expired registration should be handled by taking $.35 and putting it in a pay phone and calling someone who cares because neither the state nor the county seem to appreciate the position they have put us in.

Sincerely,

Teresa Link-LaHarpe
