As of Monday, April 5, 2004, the Southern - Union Committee of Ten has officially filed a consolidation petition with the Regional Superintendent's office located in Monmouth, IL. Filing of this petition starts the legal process towards a November 2, 2004 vote on the proposed consolidation between the Southern and Union School Districts.
In an effort to help citizens of the Southern and Union School Districts learn more about the Committee of Ten's position on key issues dealing with the proposed consolidation, the Committee of Ten has released a formal POSITION STATEMENT on the following websites:

Printed copies are also available upon request from the unit office of each school district or a Committee of Ten Member.

The position statement is designed to provide the reader with background information and observations by feasibility study consultants and the Committee of Ten, as well as recommendations made by the feasibility study consultants and the Committee of Ten on each section as outlined above. The Committee of Ten will work to publish each section of the position statement in local newspapers in the coming weeks.
