Moment in History

John McKinney had emigrated to what was then Warren County in 1832 and settled in what is now Biggsville Township. Here he purchased land for $1,000 from Romelus Rigg, an Eastern speculator, and for $300 the E 1/2 of Sec.26 from G. Mann.

He later entered a piece of land in Sec.30. Perhaps it was the beautiful grove than lured him to the site (Salter's Grove in 1882) or the well-watered beautiful prairie destined to be farmland.

His nearest neighbor was Amos Williams who settled on Ellison Creek four miles to the south. Living nearby were Abram Hendrick formerly of near Lexington, Kentucky, and Ezekiel Smith.
