Three Generations of Brides

Step into the Biggsville United Methodist Church and observe the past as you view Weddings In Our Church, a special display to celebrate the 135th anniversary of the church. As you meander through the church, beautiful love songs will be in the air and photographs of love will be all around.

To mark the occasion there will be memorabilia from three generations of one family, all married in the church. Bob and Betty (Noble) Seymour were married in 1948. Betty remembers the altar rail being a different shape and painted white.

With two large heat registers located in the center isle, brides had to be very careful not to catch their heals as they walked down the isle. Also, the basement was much smaller with the kitchen in a different location.

The entrance to the church consisted of one step into the church. Now there is a beautiful landscaped entryway.

In 1973, Diana Seymour married Gail Russell. By this time carpet had been added to the isle and the altar rail was solid across the front of the church. Dianas dress will be on display along with some photographs.

Shelly Russell married Jeff Anastasio in 2002. The church had undergone an interior change with new pews and new carpet. Once again the altar rail had seen a change with the center cut out for easier access to the altar. Air conditioning had also been installed, a welcome relief for summer brides.

Over twenty brides have agreed to display dresses, photographs, certificates and other special mementos from their wedding day. Special roses will be included on the displays to mark those loved ones who are no longer with us. Traditional wedding cake and punch will also be served.

This is one event you will want to include on your stop during Heritage Trail Days on Saturday, September 27th. The church will be open from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M.
