The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Southern High School held their annual Skits and Bonfire night on Wednesday, September 10, 2003, at Southern High School in spite of the forfeiture of the Homecoming game last week by the Panthers.
The Skits began at 7:00 p.m. in the Southern Rebel high school gymnasium and were filled with many hilarious and memorable moments for students, faculty, coaches, and parents.
The Seniors began with an obstacle course featuring the senior football boys and the football coaches. Though the coaches gave it a good fight, the Seniors were able to beat the coaches in a course that featured, basketball shooting, dribbling, jump roping, scooters, and many other obstacles.
The cheerleaders then held a funny skit in which the Senior football boys dressed up and participated in a beauty pageant.
And what a pageant it was! The boys looked very "pretty" as they pranced around in dresses, high heels, wigs, and yes, even makeup.
Ryan Walters won the crown after the boys answered a variety of answers regarding dating and the opposite sex.
The Sophomores followed up with a dance-off in which several football players and elementary girls were chosen to dance to songs from Grease.
Ryan Keever was announced the dance contest winner at the end of the skit.
The Juniors had an eating contest in which players had to rummage through flour to find bubble gum in order to blow a bubble, eat through whipped cream to find gummy bears, and eat a caramel covered onion.
All of this was done without their hands as well. It was a good effort but Justin Harden ended up winning this one.
The Southern Pom Squad then intervened and performed a dance routine to N Sync's "Space Cowboy" song.
They did a great job. The night continued with the freshmen having skits from the TV show "Who's Line Is It Anyway."
The competition was to answer questions and eat food with other people feeding you . The skit created many laughs and the face of these football players got very messy.
After the skits, a bonfire was held by the football field. The Senior football boys had built a bonfire for the student body to enjoy.
While outside, the cheerleaders and pom girls led the students and parents in cheers to express school spirit.
Even with no Homecoming game, spirits were high during the skits and bonfire and everyone enjoyed a great evening of fun and laughter.
