The Village of Stronghurst voted to hire Deanna Huss as Stronghurst Village Clerk to replace Eileen Cargill. Cargill resigned her 22 year position in August. It was voted to pay the new clerk $250 per month for a 90 day trial period.
Deanna has worked for the University of Illinois Extension Office since May of 2001. She and husband Richard have been married 13 years, and have resided in Stronghurst with their three school age children for three years. She is a 1990 Dallas City graduate.
The board also voted to pay Lori Russell a $100 bonus for the extra work she has done due to Cargill being hospitalized and before a new clerk could be hired.
The board voted to pay the village employees on the 15th and the 30th of each month as opposed to semi-monthly. This will make it easier for the treasurer to figure the taxes as well as give the employees a date they will be receiving their checks.
The board will host an appreciation dinner for all those who volunteered in the renovation of the village park. The dinner will be held at the park on Saturday, September 27th. The board voted to allot up to $1,000 for the event.
Angela Myers expressed her displeasure with this reporter regarding the article on the August meeting questioning if there was a legal quorum when only 3 members were present for a meeting . She had heard many snide remarks during the week before the item was corrected to verify that the board had met the legal requirements of a quorum.
Myers said "We (the board) do our best to do things right, since it is the taxpayers' money."
She stated that she did feel that this reporter has done a good job covering meetings and she did appreciate the Quill's retraction.
Present at the September meeting were: Board members, Tony Griepentrog, Lawrence Neff, David Vancil, Angela Myers, Robert Scott, and Juanita Jarvis; President Eric Chockley; Treasurer Lori Russell; Employees, Tony Anderson and Scott Ford; Deputy Steve Haynes and Guests, Alan Ferguson and Dan Bowman
The next meeting will be on Monday, October 6th at 7:00 p.m.
