Trial date set for stabbing suspect

OQUAWKA- A Stronghurst area juvenile accused of slashing another juvenile at the Stronghurst village park Aug. 9 will stand trial in Henderson County Circuit Court Nov. 3.

The accused faces two counts of aggravated battery for using a deadly weapon (a box cutter) to cut the back of the victim and inflicting great bodily injury.

The youth, whose name and age are not released under Illinois law, is being tried as a juvenile.

Originally housed at the Mary Davis Detention Home in Galesburg, Ill., the youth was released into the custody of his mother Aug. 25.

He has been under house arrest except during school hours since that time. The accused also faces charges in two other cases involving an act of burglary and criminal damage in excess of $300.

Sentencing on the aggravated battery charge can range from 5 years probation to an indeterminate amount of time in the Department of Corrections up to five years.
