Saturday the Rebels took a long bus ride to Indiana to take on Chicago St. Francis DeSalles. Once again the Rebs started slow and fell behind 8-0. DeSalles scored on the 10 yard pass play and with the 2-point run good.
The Rebs came right back on a long pass play to Brandon Rothzen for 68 yards. The 2-point conversion was no good, making it 8-6 in the first quarter.
The second quarter's only touchdown came with 23 seconds left in that period. This was a heads-up play by Brandon
Seeing he was going to be short of the first down marker, he lateraled the ball to Darick Clark and Darick did the rest from there. At half-time, the Rebs were ahead 14-8.
The third quarter's only score was with 37 seconds left on a 6 yard pass from Matt Kane to Garrett Lenz, making the score 20-8.
In the fourth quarter, DeSalles made a game out of it and scored on a 67 yard pass. The 2-point run was good and the score was 20-16 with 11:48 to go in the game.
On the ensuing kick-off, Matt McIntire made a nice return deep in their territory. At 9:09 left in the game, Garrett Lenz made a 1-yard run, making the final score 26-16.
We need to improve our running game and become better at our 2-point conversion plays.
Brandon Rothzen had an outstanding game with 7 catches for 205 yards.
Matt Kane connected for 15 of 22 attempts for 263 yards.
I appreciate all who made that long drive. Once again we had more fans than the home team.
