The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Life on the frontier blended families and religious persuasions.
This was true of the northern settlement of Biggsville Township.
The Shook and Thompson families were known Campellites while the McKinneys were professed Baptist, but on the prairie religious lines disappeared and the families agreed to hold divine worship at their cabins every alternate Sunday.
Eventually, the Rev. Peter Downey, a Cumberland Presbyterian rode into the area and preached his first sermon at the house of John McKinney.
He liked what he saw and stayed founding the Cumberland Presbyterian church near the Short settlement in Rozetta Township.
It later was known as the South Henderson Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
