Mayor Lila Gittings called the regular meeting October 8th to order at 7:00 p.m.
Chris Classen advised he had ordered a new heater overload for the lift station. The city is removing the air compressor on Greeky Hill and taking it to the sewer treatment plant.
The Board discussed cleaning the boiler at the old high school. Chris Classen will check the work for the amount of acid that will go in the city sewer system. There will be no cost to the City for the cleaning.
Rod Clark discussed the agreement with the Burlington Railroad.
The City agreed not to grant the railroad permission to cross city land because the railroad will not agree to move poles and line if sewer treatment plan would ever have to be expanded.
Motion was made by Newberry, and seconded by Northup to enter executive session for discussion of personnel. Bowman, Newberry, Northup, Gittings AYE.
The Council entered executive session at 7:20 p.m. and reentered regular session at 7:32 p.m.
Mayor Gittings read a letter of resignation from Stanley Vorhies, City Clerk and City Treasurer effective October 31, 2003.
Motion was made by Northup and seconded by Newberry to accept resignation with regrets. Bowman, Newberry, Northup, Gittings AYE.
Motion by Bowman and seconded by Northup to apoint Steven Vorhies to fill the term as City Clerk and City Treasurer. Bowman, Newberry, Northup, Gittings AYE.
Discussed Trick or Treat Night. It will be October 30, 2003, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Motion to do this was made by Northup and seconded by Newberry. Bowman, Newberry, Northup, Gittings AYE.
Discussed using someone for community service work in the city. Will check to see if this will work out.
Harold Northup discussed cell phone plan. Nine hundred minutes with 2 phones on shared line plan will cost approximately $55 per month. Cell phones are $29.95, but rebate will refund total cost. This quote was from Menn Firestone, Carthage.
Motion to have Harold Northup purchase cell phones as discussed. These phones are to replace any personal phones or pagers now used by employees. The motion was made by Northup, seconded by Newberry with Bowman, Newberry, Northup, Gittings voting AYE.
Commissioners present were: Phillip Bowman, Esther Newberry, and Harold Northup. Guests were Rod Clark and Chris Classen.
Minutes of the September 24th meeting were approved as was bills for payment. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
