Research County of Genealogy at the Henderson County Library

Karen Gray, rural Oquawka, volunteered during Heritage Trail Days at the Henderson County Library on Saturday in Biggsville. Above she displays one of several business ledgers available for inspection.

This ledger from 1867-1908, had belonged to William Cavins, M.D. a well-known doctor in Raritan who had moved there from Ohio.

Karen also displayed the general store ledger of Richard W. Ritchey and John W. Hopper from May 1869 to July 1870. Hopper, came from New York in 1840 to Media where he was a Judge, farmer and businessman.

Around 30 business ledgers along with other bits of county history are in this room. In the background, Louis Chapman of Rock Island is working on the genealogy of his relatives from Henderson County.
