Moment in History

The first settler in Biggsville Township was James Richey who arrived in Section 7 in 1829 planting and raising a small crop of corn.

That same year John C. Jamison entered the area and discovered Mr. Richey as the only man living here.

The next year Richey planted wheat and was assisted in harvest by the Shorts and Jamison using a reaping-hook or hand sickle. Things were so close those first years that

Richey gathered nettles and had his wife manufacture a lint from them and from this she made rude(rough) clothing for herself and the children.
