It's Harvest Time

Fall is here and along with it are slow moving vehicles, tractors in the fields, and a steady flow of truckers to and from elevators.

According to Dan Bowman, Manager of Stronghurst Grain & Mdse. harvest officially began for them with their first load of corn on September 9th.

By this week, most farmers are in the beginning stages of harvest with what Bowman estimates as 15-20% of the crop in for the area.

Currently, bean prices are as high as they have been for a few years, but on the flip side, the bushels per acre is significantly less this year, he said.

As far as corn, Bowman says it is the same old story, not very good, but farmers are producing a decent crop.

Stronghurst Grain will be busy filling their 2.2 million storage bins for the rest of harvest which Bowman predicts will last for another month and a half.
