The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.

Moment in History

In 1829 or 1830 the Seth Oaks and Abner Davis families hitched up their teams and wagons in the State of Vermont and headed West for Henderson County.

Mr. Davis settled in what is now Stronghurst Township and Mr. Oaks in Biggsville Township.

After working for others for a couple of years, Mr. Oaks settled in Sec.24 of that township and began accumulating his wealth and was known to own the first reaper in the area.

At the time of his death he owned over 4,000 acres in both Henderson and Warren Counties, Illinois and Milo County, Iowa.

(Maybe Warren Co., Iowa where town of Milo is located.)
