Stronghurst Village Board Sets Clean Up Day

By: Shirley Linder, Quill Editor

Angela Myers reported at the Stronghurst Village Board meeting on Monday evening that City Wide Clean-up Day will be held Friday, November 14, 2003.

Don Moeller, representing the Stronghurst Booster Club, requested a donation for the Christmas parade. The members voted to donate $1500.

Gene Roark, explained to the board he would like to purchase the building owned by Bob Cole for his recycling business. However, he will not buy it unless he receives the village's okay since 5 foot of the building is situated on the street.

Gene said he really wants to stay in Stronghurst, but will move out of town if he does not have support. Tony Griepentrog will talk with the lawyer about drawing up easement papers to take care of the matter.

Roark said last month he did not receive an answer to his question on doing city-wide clean-up until after the meeting, which he felt was not right.

He felt the answer should have come from the board, and not after the meeting from the President.

Roark had asked if he could do city clean-up day and said he was not told until after the meeting that they were going to stay with Waste Management this year.

Members discussed that at present they felt they should honor their contract with waste management and then reconsider after it expires.

On the request of Lawrence Neff, Tony Griepentrog, who presided at the meeting in the absence of President Eric Chockley, will have the City Attorney Mike Neff draw up an ordinance on keeping dangerous animals.

Bob Carmean reported Ken Schrader should have the maps of the village completed by spring and recommended that he be paid $2,000 now, and the rest when the work was completed.

With Lawrence Neff casting the only negative vote, the motion to pay the $2,000 now passed on a 4-1 vote.

Present were board members, Lawrence Neff, Angela Myers, David Vancil, Juanita Jarvis, Bob Scott and Tony Griepentrog; Clerk Deanna Huss; Treasurer Lori Russell; Employees, Bob Carmean, Tony Anderson and Scott Ford; Deputy Steve Haynes; Guests Don Moeller, and Gene Roark.

The meeting adjourned at 8:02 p.m. until Monday, December 1, 2003 at 7:00 p.mDecember 1, 2003 at 7:00 p.m.
