Red Ribbon Week celebration first began after an undercover agent for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration was murdered in Mexico in 1985 by drug traffickers.

The Illinois Drug Education Alliance, along with the Virginia Federation of Parents organized the first national Red Ribbon campaign to inform and prevent the illegal, unsafe, and unhealthy use of alcohol and drugs. Their goal is to keep our youth drug and alcohol free.

"UNITED WE STAND FOR A DRUG FREE LAND" was the caption on the door of Mrs. Pollock's 2nd Grade classroom. It is displayed here with one of her students, Ashley Perry, wearing a red ribbon. Students at La Harpe Elementary took part in a week-long program in the annual Red Ribbon Week anti-drug campaign. This was "Decorate A Door" day.
