The LaHarpe-Northwestern varsity baseball team saw action in five games this past week. On Monday, May 12, the Thunder hosted Camp Point (Central). In a game full of offense, Camp Point prevailed 16-8. For L-N, Chase DeCounter had a 3-4 day, adding 2 RBI's. Stephen Butterfield and Josh Phillips had 2 hits apiece. Christopher Link, Bryant Fernetti, Michael DeWitt, and Thomas Todd all had one hit each. Butterfield contributed 2 RBI's, while Phillips, Fernetti and Adam Link all added one RBI.
On Wednesday, May 14, the Thunder traveled to Bushnell to tangle with the B-PC/Avon Spartans. The two teams split a doubleheader, with Spartans taking game one 14-4, before the Thunder came back to take game two by the score of 7-1. In game one, the Thunder offense was led by Josh Phillips, who enjoyed a 3-3 effort. Christopher Link had 2 hits, while Stephen Butterfield, Chase DeCounter, and Michael DeWitt had one hit apiece. DeCounter's hit was his fourth triple of the year, and he had 2 RBI's. Link and Phillips also had one RBI each.
In game two, the story of the game was senior right-handed pitcher Matt Zaehringer. He tossed a complete game 2-hitter to lead the Thunder in the 7-1 win. He also struck out six in the victory. L-N had 12 hits in support of Zaehringer as well. Stephen Butterfield led the way with a 3-4 game, with 2 stolen bases and 2 runs scored. Josh Phillips went 2-4 with 2 runs scored. Bryant Fernetti was 2-2 with 3 RBI's. Also adding hits wee Adam Link, Brittain Daudelin, A.J. Huston, Christopher Link, and Chase DeCounter. DeCounter added 2 RBI's as well.
On Thursday, May 15, the Thunder traveled to Southern. The Rebels, who sport a 23-1 record this season, proved why their record is so good, beating the Thunder 11-2. Five Thunder hitters reached the hit column. Josh Phillips, Chase DeCounter, Christopher Link, Bryant Fernetti, and Brittain Daudelin all had singles. Link and Daudelin had the 2 Thunder RBI's.
On Friday, May 16, L-N hosted the Warren Warriors. Behind a strong pitching performance by freshman Bryant Fernetti and one big offensive inning, the Thunder prevailed 5-3. Fernetti tossed a complete game, allowing 6 hits and striking out 6 along the way. The Thunder served all the runs they would need in the 3rd inning with RBI's coming from Fernetti (2), Christopher Link, and Adam Link.
