The Southern Girls Track Team competed for state berths at the Monmouth High School Sectional on Friday, May 16 with one freshman - Theresa Brokaw - qualifying.
The young team had several good performances.
In the throws, both Darci Renken and Ciara Robinson advanced to the finals of their events. Darci threw the shot put a distance of 30'5 1/4". Ciara launched the discus 86'8".
Freshman Laura Hoover made it to the finals of long jump with a leap of 15'2 3/4". She also competed in the 400 and 200 meter dashes.
Rachael Bundy ran a personal best time of 12.85 in the 100 meter dash to advance to finals in that event. She also competed in final competition in the triple jump, ending the season with a jump of 30'2".
Freshman Julie Stambaugh competed in both the long jump and 100 meter dash.
Theresa Qualifies For State Meet
Freshman Theresa Brokaw is the only Belle competitor that will continue competition into the postseason.
Theresa advanced to the State Meet at Eastern Illinois University this Friday and Saturday, May 23rd and 24th, by running well under qualifying times in both the 1600 and 3200 meter run.
She won both events at the Monmouth Sectional in times of 11:31.91 (3200) and 5:22.09 (1600) respectively.
