Scholastic Leaders of La Harpe High School

Kelly Jo Blythe

Kelly Jo Blythe is the daughter of Gary and Cheryl Blythe, and the granddaughter of the late Lowell and Marcia Blythe, and Jean Steiber and the late Fredrick Steiber.

Kelly will graduate with a grade point average of 4.125, and has been very involved in school activities throughout her high school career.

Kelly is an Illinois State Scholar, and was chosen by the faculty and senior class as the DAR good citizen this past Fall. She has been named to Who's Who Among American High School Students and was recognized by the Society of Academic Achievement all four years. In her extra curricular activities Kelly has been quite successful.

She participated in track and volleyball all four years, and basketball three years.

Kelly was one of the captains for both the volleyball and track teams her senior year.

In volleyball she received the Lady Eagle Defensive Specialist Award as well as receiving honorable mention recognition on the Macomb Journal and the Journal Pilot/WCAZ all area teams.

She was part of a 4x800 track relay team that finished 7th at the state track meet her sophomore year, and received two Gatorade Will to Win Awards.

Kelly has been involved in a number of other non-athletic extracurricular activities.

She has been a member of the National Honor Society, serving as Secretary/Treasurer her senior year, Yearbook Staff, Spanish Club, and Band three years. In the community Kelly is a member of the Union Church, and a member of 4-H for eleven years and has worked part time at the La Harpe Davier Health Care Center.

Kelly was this year's Homecoming Queen and chosen Most likely to Succeed by her classmates. She has received the Prairie State Achievement Award in writing and science and the President's Education Award.

Kelly has also received several scholarships, including; ESA Foundation - Illinois State Endowment; Hancock County Farm Bureau Scholarship; American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship; Kyle Johnson Memorial Scholarship; Elk's Most Valuable Student Scholarship; Great River Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship; Minnie White Scholarship; and the Butler University Trustee Scholarship.

Kelly plans to attend Drake University or Butler University majoring in pharmacy.

Adam Bruce Link

Adam Bruce Link is the son of Dan and Rebecca Link, and the grandson of Norma Renshaw and the late Wendell Renshaw; Georgia and Ben Cox, and the late Robert Link.

Adam will graduate with a grade point average of 4.122. During his high school career Adam has participated in a number of activities.

As a Freshman Adam was elected president of his class, and served on the student council.

He is a three year member of the National Honor Society and a four year member of the Society of Academic Achievement.

He is a member of Who's Who Among American High School Students, the Scholastic Bowl team, the WGEM Academic Challenge team, and the WYSE team.

In was a member of the Chorus 2 years, going to the Peoria Area Civic Chorale Choir his Freshman year. He is a member of Spanish Club, serving as president his junior year.

Adam received the Geometry Award his Freshman year, served as a library assistant all four years, and was voted by his classmates as the Most Likely to Succeed.

In athletics, Adam participated in basketball three years serving as one of the captains his sophomore year, and baseball two years.

In the community Adam is a member of the Union Church of La Harpe, and has served as a Sunday School teacher's assistant, and Vacation Bible School volunteer.

He has worked with Habitat for Humanity, he has served as a math tutor, and he has served as an umpire for the summer baseball/softball programs, as well as being an assistant coach.

Adam has received the Prairie State Achievement Award in science and social studies. He has also received the President's Education Award.

He has been named an Illinois State Scholar, and has received several scholarships, including; the First State Bank of Western Illinois Scholarship; WIU Foundation Scholarship; Leon and Marion Lamet Scholarship; the Residential Scholar Initiative; Charles and Emily Sadler History Department Scholarship; B.I. and Flora Mueller Scholarship; and the La Harpe Community Book Scholarship.

Adam will attend Western Illinois University this fall with a major in history with a possible minor in math.
