Dallas City Board Hear Complaints

According to Clerk Stanley Vorhies, the Dallas City Council members met May 14, 2003 with Mayor Lila Gittings calling the meeting to order. The following Commissioners present were: Esther Newberry, Nick Huston and John Pieper. Harold Northup, Jr. was absent.

Others attending the meeting were Ronald White, Chris Classen, Phillip Bowman, Nancy Clampitt, Geneva Tutwiler, Rod Clark, and Ruth Higgins.

The minutes of the April 23, 2003 were accepted. The meeting was adjourned at 7:05 p.m.

Meeting was opened at 7:06 p.m. Mayor Gittings advised she wanted to fill a vacancy on the council by appointing Phillip Bowman.

A motion was made by Mayor Gittings, seconded by Newberry to appoint Phillip Bowman to fill vacancy on council. Newberry and Gittings - Aye. Northup - Absent.

Ronald White discusssed a water bill which he is disputing because he was gone almost a year. Decided to settle bill for $227.41. A reconnect fee of $25.00 will be charged when water service is restored.

Newberry made a motion, seconded by Bowman to settle on $227.41 water bill. All ayes.

Nancy Clampitt discussed the ditch by her house which is washing out the street by her property. This will be discussed.

Geneva Tutwiler discusssed parking in Methodist Church lot. It appears unauthorized people are throwing trash on private property. It appears there should be signs put up showing church parking only.

Ruth Higgins discussed Fish Fry on May 25th. She requested a temporary fence along her building be put up for approximately 4 hours. This is for American Legion fund raiser. The motion passed.

Chris Classen discussed water quality report which has been published.

A motion was approved to have City start checking on sewer connections in violation of City Ordinance. This will begin on June 1 and be completed by September 1. Non compliance letters will be sent and will be rechecked for compliance by December 1, 2003. Motion passed.

A motion was approved to have Tom Edmonds get appliances at clean up days for $50.00. All ayes.

They also approved to pass Federal Surplus Property Program with IL Dept. of Central Management.
