Firemen Bid Farewell To The Chief

by Donna Grisham, The Quill Staff

La Harpe, Terre Haute and Fountain Green Fire Departments met on Thursday, May 8th at the station in La Harpe to say good-bye to Roger Jackson, who has served the La Harpe Fire Protection District and the community for many years.

When Roger became Fire Marshal, he became a leader with a positive attitude with confidence in the job that he had to do.

The unity of the three departments is the lasting results of his knowledge and wisdom as a leader.

A fellow fireman said, "It was an advantage to have a man who loved God and leadership. He was a man who became friends with the men he led. He had the vision to see the organization prosper and move forward. When the role of leadership ends, Roger did not say, "I'm done,' but rather, "I'll help the new leader assume his responsibilities.' Roger truly made a difference and his efforts and commitments did not go unnoticed."

Tom Todd also retired after 15 years of dedicated service to the department and community.

These two men are greatly appreciated for the years of community service they gave.
