On Monday, May 5, the LaHarpe-Northwestern varsity baseball team hosted Nauvoo-Colusa. The visiting Vikings took a 12-2 decision. The Thunder managed only 3 hits on the day. Josh Phillips and Chase DeCounter each had a double, while Matt Zaehringer added a home run. Zaehringer and DeCounter had the L-N RBI's.
On Tuesday, May 6, L-N traveled to Monmouth College's Glasgow Field to take on the Southern Rebels in a conference double header. The Thunder played 2 very solid games, despite the outcome, dropping both games by the scores of 7-1 and 6-3. In game one, Southern senior left-hander Quinn Leath one hit the Thunder. Stephen Butterfield had the lone Thunder hit, leading off the game with a single, stealing second base, moving to third on a ground out, and scoring on dropped third strike. Chase DeCounter went the distance on the mound and pitched well, striking out 5.
In game two, L-N gave the Rebels all they wanted. Sophomore Jason Poulter made his first start of the year on the mound and went the distance, striking out 2, allowing only 6 hits and 2 earned runs. Offensively, Brittain Daudelin and Dustin Moore collected the only 2 Thunder hits. Each of the players collected one RBI as well.
On Friday, May 9, the Thunder traveled to Rushville to battle Rushville/Industry. The Thunder exploded offensively, winning an 18-14 slugfest. Christopher Link led the way, enjoying a 3-5 day, including a double, a home run and 8 RBI's. Josh Phillips went 3-4 with 3 RBI's. Dustin Moore was 2-4 with 3 RBI's. Chase DeCounter had 2 hits as did Thomas Todd. Jason Poulter also had one hit. Matt Swanson and Brittain Daudelin also added one RBI apiece.
