The Belles track team competed in the Carthage Relays on Monday, April 28th. As a team, they finished fifth among the eight-team field.
With six girls participating for Southern, the Belles brought home five first-place finishes and established three new meet records.

Rachael Bundy: 1st - 100m dash *12.95; 6th - 400m dash 1:12.7; 2nd - triple jump 29'6".
Theresa Brokaw: 1st - 1600m run *5:45.19; 1st - 3200m run *12:13.13.
Darci Renken: 1st - shot put 29'9 3/4".
Laura Hoover: 3rd - long jump 14'4"; 4th 100m dash 13.45.
Ciara Robinson: 1st - discus 89'9".
Southern hosted the Bi-County conference track meet at Monmouth College on Tuesday, April 29th.
The Roseville/Yorkwood Bearcats took first place team honors in both the girls and boys competition.
Southern had several individual performances that earned a top-five finish. Teams competing in the meet included Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon, North Fulton, Roseville/Yorkwood, La Harpe/Northwestern and Southern.

Tuesday, April 29, Dallas City Jr. High hosted the annual 5th and 6th grade Bulldog Relays. Southern could only participate in 50% of the events, but performed impressively in those 50%.
The shot put relay team of Kristin Plath, Ashli Burg, Ashley Coffey and Miriam Rutzen earned blue ribbons with a combined distance of 74'11".
Ashley Coffey, Kristin Plath, Miriam Rutzen and Jacinda Reighard performed exceptionally in the long jump relay resulting in a combined total of 47'1 1/2".
Each girl out jumped all their competitors. The boys shot put relay team of Dillan Vancil, Layton Housman, Drue Waterman, and Cody Postle finished in 4th place as did Cody Postle, Layton Housman, Drue Waterman and Mark Mynatt in the long jump relay.
The running events were all relays consisting of 2 boys and girls. The following relays earned 1st place ribbons:
4x50 yard shuttle - Mark Mynatt, Ashley Coffey, Mariah Brooks and Drue Waterman
4x200m baton relay - Drue Waterman, Mark Mynatt, Ashley Coffey and Kristin Plath
Distance Medley (200-400-600-800) - Cody Postle, Ashli Burg, Miriam Rutzen and Layton Housman
The 800m Medley (100-100-200-400) of Kristin Plath, Dillan Vancil, Miriam Rutzen and Layton Housman came in 2nd and the 4x25 yard shuttle with Dillan Vancil, Samantha Arnold, Jacinda Reighard and Cody Postle finished 4th. Although we could only fill one half of the events, the athletes had a good time and brought home many ribbons.
