Legion Celebrates With Open House

The American Legion #765 members have been working hard over the past year remodeling their new meeting hall.

On Wednesday, March 12th, they were pleased to hold an open house to show the public what had been accomplished.

Walking into the building one would never believe it had housed a grocery store for years and more recently a flower shop.

With new ceiling, lights, paint, wainscoting, ceiling fans and tile flooring the building has been truly transformed.

This transformation could not have been done without the communities help of volunteer work and generous donations.

On Sunday evening, March 16th the Legion Auxiliary held their annual potluck birthday dinner for the legion members and their wives. A bounty of food along with birthday cake and good fellowship, made a most enjoyable evening.

Speaker for the evening was Larry Sterett of Biggsville, who spoke to the group about Special Olympics. Larry has been a starter at the Special Olympic races for several years. The American Legion and Legion Auxiliary supports Special Olympics and it was enlightening to hear how the participant's needs are cared for. A blind person is able to run a race by a rope to hold to and the outside track in case of a fall. It was especially heart warming to hear how each participant is do proud to have done something by themselves, no matter how long it took to finish a race.

To conclude a busy week the legion served a soup supper on Wednesday, March 19th, which was well attended.
