The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Dear Editor:
I would like to respond to the Quill Correspondent' who wrote such derogatory remarks about ALL of Hollywood. I don't think any community should be grouped together and all condemned because of their views political or otherwise.
Nor do I think anyone should be labeled unpatriotic because of their objections of war.
I think that those who oppose the war, still support our troops wherever they are. In fact, those who support them the most, probably prefer that they don't have to go into combat.
The truthful part of his article, was the part about the many previous heroes that came from the movie colonies.
I'm sure that many of those heroes have families still in that area and in that business.
It certainly is not fair to them or anyone else to say that they make patriotism a dirty word.
I think if the truth were known there are as many or more people opposed to this war as there are in favor of it, at least among the people that I know. But please don't confuse politics and patriotism.
After all that is what being an American is all aboutÑbeing able to believe as you wish, and to have freedom of speech.
That is what demonstrations are aboutÑone of our basic freedoms! GOD BLESS AMERICA!
Thank you for letting me vent my displeasure with your correspondent.

Random Thoughts of a Widower
Dear Editor,
If Denny B. is put on a newspaper's payroll for writing letters to the editor, maybe I could be entitled to a piece of their business (and not the trash can). If this is not feasible, how about a Reef room and a George room (and not the ones already names John). A more likely scenario is holding out for a ransom in promising not to write any more letters to the editor.
It is hard to figure but when Christmas cards, birthday cards and other cards are received, they do not have that much meaning. However, when sympathy cards come for a departed loved one, they are tremendously appreciated.
There are over 100 cards so far, which have been read over many times. Of course visits and calls are also very helpful.
If you ever have a multitude of hospital bills, doctor bills, etc. over a lengthy time period and do not want to deal with the stress involved, Jim Wright does an effective job as a health claims professional.
Thinking back to the favorite local topic, I still think Jesse Venturi and Minnesota lawmakers had the best idea. They made education and low property taxes their top priorities by setting aside half of the income in their general budget for schools. They then divided up the other half of the pie. However, it will take some state wide organization to take the bull by the horns in taking the initiative to get a change of revenue proposition for our schools on the election ballot.
It looked like Rams' personnel had lost their minds when they released Aeneos Williams, but, thankfully, they resigned him. Of course there is a salary cap, but there are some irreplaceable players like Williams, Faulk and Pace. Also releasing CB's Bly and McCleon was tough to take. They need a top notch CB and another safety comparable to Archeleta. They definitely need an impact MLB they have missed since losing Fletcher.
On offense, Hogkins, the 270 lb. blocking back, will be hard to replace. The Rams made a mistake in last years's draft by not taking Randel El and now they need another impact receiver and return man, since Bruce and Proehl's talent levels have started to diminish. Since they run a pass happy offense, their first choice in the college draft should be an outstanding receiver. Hopefully they can fill all of their needs through free agency or the college draft.
The Detroit Lions are rumored to be after GM Charley Armey of the Rams, after they bounded Bill Tobin. Since I used to play against Tobin 50 years ago, how about my taking Armey's position? We are looking forward to the Ram's summer camp in Macomb!
No one asked, but in my opinion two keys to a successful marriage are 1) similar Christian values, and 2) each spouse caring more about the other than themselves.
