The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Most early pioneers cooked with pots in a fireplace. A stove was a marvelous, expensive possession. Settlers traveled great distances just to see these novel cooking machines and wondered at their abilities.
Mr. Elan Catlin introduced the first cooking-stove into the South Henderson settlement around 1841(same year that Henderson County was formed from Warren County).
A vast improvement over the fireplace, especially in the summer time, the stove remained a rare object in homes for a long time, Mr. Russell having the second cooking stove.
