Southern High School Belles Softball team, coached by Shelly and John Morrison, display their Illinois Regional Championship Class A plaque earned in Macomb last week, after their 26 inning legacy. The Belles had beaten the Macomb Bombers 1-0 after Southern's Mindy Morrison had thrown 334 pitches with Vicki Tapscott catching during the 5 1/4 hour marathon. In the 7th, Tapscott led off the 26th inning with a base hit, Ciara Robinson, running for Vicki, stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Rachael Manning. One out later, Kim Plath hit a single to left field bringing in the scoring run.
Belles Lose to Beardstown In Class A Sectional - 3-0
The Belles were disappointed in the Class A Sectional at Quincy/Notre Dame when they faced a tough (top-seeded) Beardstown team on Thursday. With Mindy Morrison again on the mound, the first few innings were 0-0 until Beardstown broke loose in the 6th with a triple driving in 2 runs. Morrison was leading hitting with 2 out of 3. The Belles were seeded 6th and ended with a 18-8 record.
