The Southern Rebels season ended June 4th after Rockridge outscored Southern by one run in 7 innings of Super-Sectional play.
With the bases loaded in the 7th, and only one out, the next two Rebel batters were unable to capitalize ending the Rebels hope of a trip to state.
The Rebels also had a chance in the 5th inning after 2 outs when they loaded the bases. Darick Clark hit to right field and made it to first on a dropped ball. Matt McIntire singled moving Clark to third, then Silas Pogue went to first on a walk. With the bases loaded, Chris Wisslead hit up third base line to retire the side.
The Rebels began the competition Monday with Chris Wisslead pitching, but the contest was suspended to Tuesday as rains increased in the 2nd inning. The Rebels were down 1-3.
Tuesday's game resumed in the bottom of the 2nd, but now with Quinn Leath on the mound. Leath gave up no runs for the day.
Earlier, in the first Sectional games last Thursday the Rebels conquered Midwest Central 5-3. Then on Saturday, the Rebels grasped the Sectional 1-0 in an exciting 7th inning finish over the Tremont Turks.
The Rebels had a chance to score in three different innings but it wasn't until the seventh, and one out, when the Rebels made their move.
Brandon Rothzen had a single, Adam Corzatt struck out for the second out. Darick Clark singled moving Rothzen to second. Then Junior, Matt McIntire, came to the plate, due for a hit.
With a 1-1 count, McIntire smacked the next pitch into left field as Rothzen rounded third and slid into home plate for the win.
