Florida investigators are seeking help in obtaining leads on a Homicide case.

Cynthia "Cindy" Fay Shauman, 46, formerly of Oquawka, was found dead in her Florida condo at Indian Rock Beach near St. Petersburg, and as yet, the case has not been solved.

The incident occurred around February 28, 2003 this year. Her estranged husband, Kevin Shauman, 47, of Oquawka, had called the police to report that she wasn't responding to e-mails or phone calls since February 25th.

The police went to her condo and found she had been murdered at her residence.

Shauman had been living alone, taking care of her financial matters and running a jewelry business out of her residence.

"It looked like robbery was the motive," Detective Michael Bailey told The Quill in a phone call here last Wednesday.

Detective Bailey, the investigator handling the case from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department in Florida is asking for help from anyone who possibly heard from Shauman around February 28th.

"We are looking for anyone who would have spoken to her, emailed or met with her the week of 28th of February."

"I am looking for any contact or any independent knowledge that might help with the investigation."

It was reported that Cynthia had worked for quite a number of years in the jewelry business selling diamonds and rings and selling items on Ebay through the Internet.

A February Burlington Hawk Eye story reported the following

"Shauman's door wasn't broken - indicating she may have known her attacker and let him or her in voluntarily, and that Shauman operated an Internet jewelry operation called Diamonds Etc., trading in diamonds and gems worldwide.

Born in Monmouth, she was a licensed practical nurse at Monmouth Community Hospital for a time before opening C&S Body Firm Tanning Spa in Burlington.

Her first venture into the jewelry business was as owner of Shauman's Jewelry at South Park Mall in Moline, Ill. Eventually, she found her way into retailing gemstones on the Internet, and had been operating the business out of her home.

Neighbors said Shauman frequently hosted parties at her condo, entertaining at all hours. She took in roommates from time to time, they said.

Investigators haven't talked about how Shauman died, although an autopsy was performed Saturday and a police forensics team searched her home."

According to Detective Bailey, the police are still not releasing how Shauman died.

They are asking area residents, no matter how small an incident it might seem, to call the information to Detective Michael Bailey of the Pinellas County Sheriff's office homicide unit.

Detective Bailey's number is 727-582-5808. You may also call the Henderson County Sheriff's Office in Oquawka at 309-867-4291- and give the information to Sheriff Mark Lumbeck who will contact Detective Bailey.
