The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
One of the earliest settlers in Terre Haute Township was Mr. Steven Genung' family, who came in 1842.
They had lived in the Terre Haute, Indiana area and therefore, named the new township for this reason. Mr. Genung was a soldier in the Mormon War.
Mr. Simeon Averett was also a soldier in the ranks of law-abiding citizens and was a guard at the Carthage jail the night before the notorious Joe Smith was killed.
