The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
The week is finally here when La Harpe will be seeing lots of activities with cars to honor the legacy of Fred Gibb.
A quick e-mail from Matt Murphy, founder of GMMG, Inc. in Marietta, Georgia, confirms the delivery of "the last three ZL-1s" he said.
"As you remember," he said, "we unveiled the first 2002 ZL1 at last year's show and these 3 will be the last ones. We should also have about 12 or more of the new ZL1s at the show."
Murphy and hundreds of other car enthusiasts are looking forward to the show in La Harpe on Saturday morning as well as the Maple City Street Machines Cruise Night in Monmouth on Friday evening.
A 20 x 30 foot Bowtie, emblem of the Chevy, will be in La Harpe as a backdrop for photos. This is usually only at bigger shows, Murphy said.
According to Mayor Kenny Brown from La Harpe, the interest in the Fred Gibb car show continues to spread around the country.
"We are getting a kick out of the calls and emails we are receiving," Brown said.
One guy from Alabama debated on bringing his older Camaro, his 16 month old baby and his 6 month pregnant wife that far. He finally decided it would be okay and he is coming.
Another man called from Louisiana who drives a tugboat that pushes barges on the river. He worked out a plan to come. When he gets to Cape Girade, MO he will rent a car, come to the Cruise Night in Monmouth and Car Show in La Harpe and return to MO to travel on up the river with his tug.
Brown said Chevy Rumble and Super Chevy magazines will have reporters here again along with radio and TV coverage from local stations. The Quill will also be there and articles can be found on the web at www.quillnewspaper.com.
Be sure to get this year's mugs and dash plaques on display at the bank and at Time & Chime in La Harpe.
