The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.

Moment in History

As you travel this summer take time to wander through a cemetery.

All sorts of art in stone can be found. Locally, tree stones come in various sizes and have a variety of decorations.

Probably the most unusual in Henderson County is the one placed as a memorial for George Evans, a Civil War soldier who was killed at the Battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas. (He is actually buried on the battlefield there.)

Here in stone are his musket, knapsack, bayonet leaning beside a tall tree stump.

Another in a different cemetery is a log in front of which rests the faithful dog.

Current styles include etched pictures of the deceased , a reminder of their occupation or perhaps, a hobby they enjoyed.

The variety is limitless.
