LaHarpe City Council Nixes Burn Ban

At the July 14th regular meeting of the La Harpe City Council called to order by by Mayor Kenny Brown, the legislative committee decided against a burn ban within the city limits.

The ordinance will remain as is. Burning is to be of leaves or landscaping waste, and Waste Management should pick up all other household waste.

City Auditor Greg Butler was present to highlight the annual financial audit which has been completed. The audit was acceptable and proved to be a good year.

The next city-wide cleanup date with Waste Management was discussed. With their approval, it will be the last Monday of September or first Monday of October. A final date will be set after Waste Management accepts a date.

The $20,000 grant money has been received for the police new squad car. The motion was made to purchase the vehicle recommended by the police department. They should have the car by late August.

Due to the passing of the Clean Water Act, a bill has been received for $5,000 for the waste water permit and $4,000 for the water plant permit. These amounts are due August 1.

Carol Stevens, City Clerk also reported approving the minutes of the June meeting, July treasurer's report and bills to be paid. They adjourned at 8:48 pm.
