Summerfest 2003 promises to entertain one and all with a variety of acts - from classic country tunes and gospel music to wacky slapstick comedy.
On Thursday night, July 24 at 7:30 p.m., Danny Blakey, from Toulon, and his band Country Pride (formerly known as The Country Travelers) will entertain with classic country and gospel.
Performing with him will be 17 year old Kristen Knowles from Galva. She has been singing with Danny since she was 8 years old.
Others in the group are Roger Miller, guitarist, from Lacon; Glenda Linneman sings and plays several instruments, and is from the Prophetstown area; Wendell Cook is from Prophetstown and plays the bass guitar; and Mike Brodbeck from Peoria, plays the drums. All have been with several other bands over the years.
Danny Blakey and Country Pride have been together for a year.
The comedy show group "Two for the Show" is "one of Branson's most entertaining and professional shows unlike anything you have seen".
This group performs yesterday's and today's country music and/or a 50's/60's show with unmatched vocal harmonies. The show includes Ray Stevens and Spike Jones pantomimes and high energy comedy routines.
Their many credits include opening shows for Nashville artists, hundreds of State Fairs and festivals, and they have appeared on the Grand Old Opry.
Group member "CR-A-A-Z-Y" Dave, who claims to be "Thirty Something" going on twelve, describes their performance as "Controlled Chaos." From the moment "Two for the Show" step on stage to the last laugh, their main concern is the satisfaction of the audience.
There is still time to sign up for the Variety Show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Contact Dianne Balmer 217-659-3939 or Lucretia at 217-659-3793. Juggling, spoons, magic act, dance, sing...you name it, we want to see you do it.
