The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
On Saturday, December 20th, the firemen served their annual free Christmas dinner to the residents of La Harpe, Terre Haute and Ft. Green Fire Protection District.
The traditional Christmas Dinner was served in the Fellowship Hall of the La Harpe Christian Church to a large crowd.
This tradition was started 13 years ago when Terry Housewright, Fire Chief at the time, felt there was a need in the community that wasn't being met.
So Mr. Housewright, and firemen of the area's fire district, started this event by serving those who would not be spending the holidays with family, and those who were not able to get out.
This allowed residents an opportunity to spend some time together with other friends of the community.
The communities have around 60 volunteer firemen who spend the busy holiday season helping others.
This year at the dinner, they prepared 12 turkeys, along with all the trimmings. They have served from as few as 120 to 180 residents.
In addition to this number, they have delivered meals to as many as 100 shut ins.
The residents appreciate our firemen and all they do for this community!
